hybrid squash
Harvested the hybrid squash. This one grew on Patty Pan squash plant, it has tougher skin, a likely winter squash. I have been many summer patty pans from the same plant.. Interesting!
Zucchinis and lemon cuk
Kale juice
I have been making a lot of green juice lately. Mix in a peeled orange, lots of kale leaves and a little ginger. Yum!
Blue Kale, Patty Pan Squash and a delicata squash. I accidently pulled this unripe squash when tidying up the vines. It’ll be a good experiment to ripen this indoors.

January 2015, week 4 – First Harvest

Happy New Year to all my readers!

Chives growing by the fence

Weather has been fun so far and I have been away most of the year. I am back to Northwest. For the first time this year, I ventured into the mossy soggy garden. To my surprise, I found overwintered green onions and my trusty chives. I am so happy to harvest a bunch of spring onions and generous snips of chives. All were promptly used as garnish on Uttapa I was making for breakfast.

Here is the close-up of trusty chives. Being Perennial, these come up in winter every year.

Generous Snips of chives are my first harvest of the year! Chives got a good haircut.

January Harvest:
Spring Onion: 4-5 springs
Chives: a generous bunch for garnish

Goat’s beard

I wonder many times why this weedy plant even occupies primo spot of my garden, I see it all over the town wild in the wetlands. It’s Goat’s beard, I cut it down to the roots every year but it comes back strong.

Well, sometimes I get to arrange pretty flowers it produces in late June.
